01 About

A teacher of English, a reader of texts and a writer of three languages.

For more than three decades Muhammad Azmat has taught English language, linguistics and literature, from middle-school classrooms in Haripur to BS and MA programmes and, in 2015–16, the Preparatory Year Programme of the English Language Institute at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

He holds eight academic and professional degrees in English and its teaching: PhD English coursework (4.00/4.00) and an MS English (4.00/4.00 in the research thesis) from the International Islamic University Islamabad, MA and BA English and a BEd from the University of Peshawar, a gold-medal MEd from Hazara University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TEFL from Allama Iqbal Open University.

His research brings systemic-functional linguistics and stylistics to literature and to the Qur'an, from colonial power in Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea to the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Qur'an. He has also written on assessment through Bloom's Taxonomy. As a teacher-trainer, award-winning magazine chief-editor, documentary maker and poet in English, Urdu and Hindko, he is a familiar figure in the academic life of Haripur.

Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.
